The Y-VISP Academic Experience

Yale's unparalleled academic experience forms the core of the Yale Visiting International Student Program. Navigate this section to learn about the program's academic expectations, philosophy, and resources.

Liberal Arts

The Yale Visiting International Student Program is committed to the idea of a liberal arts education through which students think and learn across disciplines, liberating or freeing the mind to its fullest potential. The essence of such an education is not what you study but the result – gaining the ability to think critically and independently and to write, reason, and communicate clearly – the foundation for all professions.

Y-VISPs come from a wide range of academic backgrounds. You can see the majors of Y-VISP alums below. Interested in connecting with an alum in your major? Complete the contact form here.

Quote: The Y-VISP program allowed me to explore different fields, but also encouraged me to pursue my interests. Yale’s liberal arts curriculum gave me the autonomy to design my schedule and choose my courses. I took Political Science and Global Affairs courses because they were my fields of interest, but I also took an Anthropology course, which broadened my perspective on issues relevant to my primary fields. My courses were well-balanced yet focused.
